Kenyans’ Obsession with Belonging to Institutions and Famine in the Country

One of the most intriguing theories as to why Kenyans have frequent food shortages and farmers earn peanuts even though the country is well endowed with good climate, is called “The Obsession with Belonging.” The essence of the theory is that Kenyans want to belong to institutions. They have become addicted to “belonging.” Meet any one on the street and the introduction is, “Meet Greg Onyango of Kenyatta National Hospital (or any other organization).” The more the perceived prestige of the institution, the warmer the shake hand shake: “Pleased to meet you! Which section are you in?”
