It is not enough that the Ministry of Lands has suspended its senior staff allegedly involved the Syokimau Kenya Airports Authority land selling scam. Such people, where proved guilty, should not only be imprisoned (the Chinese would possibly kill them), they should also compensate their victims. It is said that councilors, politicians and seniors government officials who constituted the theft gang pocketed as much as Shs 240 millions from only a small section of the land in question.

As a committed campaigner against corruption (see our Moral Reawaking Campaign) in Kenya – and in deed in all Africa – I have justifiable contempt for those who benefit from the vice. And that’s almost everyone who has money in the continent, at least according to my evaluation. A rich man in Africa is either corrupt or his parents were corrupt. But several events that happened to me these past weeks have made me take a second look at things.

Joe Tarijikaleo had reduced success to a single word with an easy formula. And he had devised a strategy – to find someone who knew someone who could take him to His Excellency, Mr. Big Man so he could get the job of the boss of the Great Bank. One day, he got the job of The Boss of the Great Bank and thanked his god profusely with all kinds of sacrifices and prayers. And even though he professed Christianity, he threw in a witchdoctor, as he always did on such an occasion, to thank his ancestors.
